Life can feel impossible sometimes. Mental illness, trauma, and the overwhelming responsibilities of life can hit you out of nowhere. You feel isolated and alone, and don’t know when and how to ask for help. You feel like no matter what you do, you can’t seem to get the motivation to get out of bed…. you are in a complete and utterly depressing slum. You are not alone.

This post is dedicated to YOU. You, the one who feels like life has dealt you the worst hand of cards. You, the one who can’t seem to control the negative thoughts that in your mind. You, the one who feels like you can’t do anything right. You, the one wondering why you are the way you are. You, the one who is waiting for the day to come when its your turn to be happy. You, the one who is thinking about giving up.

YOU are beautiful. Yes, you! The one who looks at your reflection every day and only recognizes your flaws in the mirror tenfold. You, the girl who thinks you are too skinny, too fat, too short, or too tall. You, the one constantly comparing yourself to the masked beauty that is shown all over the media.

YOU ARE FREAKING BEAUTIFUL! Those flaws that you see, those scars, those stretch marks, those age spots, whatever it is that you see all represent a huge part of who you are and what you have been through. Embrace your undeniable beauty!

YOU are not a failure. Everything you are going through is likely causing you to doubt yourself in every which way possible. The battles that you are going through are probably making you discredit your worth. The fact that you can’t seem to move forward has made you feel like you have failed yourself.

The fact that you are still here and continue to fight is an accomplishment on its own. You may be thinking, “Why? I didn’t even switch out of my pyjamas today, and have struggled to have any human interactions in the past week,” but you are here and sometimes that is all I can hope from you. It is okay if all you did today was keep yourself together. You are going to have ups and downs. You are going to have worse days than others. Celebrate your small victories!

YOU are loved. I know during difficult times it is hard to recognize all of those around you who support and love you. Maybe your last relationship is making you feel like you are not worthy of love. Maybe an ex friend of yours has made you question the loyalty of all of your closest friends.

GUESS WHAT?! You are loved unconditionally by so many. These people would do anything for you. They hate to see you hurting and want to see you happy. They need you as much as you need them. You need to cherish those who love you, and let go of those who can’t see your worth. That ex friend and ex boyfriend are not going to define your ability to love and be loved. They are in the past for a reason.

YOU will get through this. I know right now you are likely thinking that your time will never come. You keep reaching for that moment when things start to change for the better, but it seems to be too far to grasp. You wonder if you will ever get past this.

Keep an open mind. Change the way you think by turning those can’ts into cans. Practice positive self-talk daily. Start by saying things like:

  • “I can and will get through this.”
  • “I was given this life because I am strong enough to handle it.”
  • “Better days are coming.”

You have already come this far. You will get through this and become an even stronger person because of it.

YOU have the power to change your life. What you are going through is not easy. It is a constant battle and can feel completely draining. But, what you are going through can also be used as an opportunity to better understand yourself, grow and change your life completely.

Use this war as an opportunity to grow. Try to find the positives in all of this negativity. These struggles are only going to make you stronger and more aware of who you are as a person, as long as you embrace this journey. Get the help you need, spend time practicing positive self-talk and make sure to find the time to take care of yourself – whether that is going on a nature walk, having a hot bath, writing that blog or reading your favourite book. Do what makes you happy. You do YOU!

I know you are struggling. I know you are tired. I know you feel like the world is on your shoulders. Things will get better. Trust your journey. Your happiness will come. Everyone has their own timeline.

To the girl who feels like giving up, please don’t. There are too many people in this world who crave to see your smile.
